Pavers of the way

Most of our spiritual pioneers will remain unknown until we gain heaven's perspective one day. Although sometimes recorded in lists or on tombstone markers, they are rarely noticed and even more seldom honored. When their contemporaries failed, they stood their ground and remained faithful. Nehemiah recognizes two such groups!

Positive Separation

Almost sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it? Separation is too often viewed through the lens of the word *from* and too seldom viewed through the better word *to.* What were the separation priorities of people who made the word of God central to their lives again?

You know what to do.

Most of the "getting right" times in our lives are not a result of learning new information; they result from our return to what we already know, but have recently disregarded. And there is a subtle, yet profound, difference in coming back to a spiritual behavior and coming back to God Himself! 

Checking the box

The modern equivalent of signing your name is checking the box. I think we have all unthinkingly checked the "agree with terms and conditions" box without even reading them! But what about people like John Hancock and the Declaration signers who pledged their very lives? Or what about the people you'll meet today on this episode? Listen!

Getting sick of yourself

Sometimes the only way people move forward for the Lord is when they become sick of themselves. “Experience keeps a dear school; but  fool will learn by no other.” What will it take for you to renew your commitment to the will of God?

Are you mindful of God?

Notice that I did not ask, “Are you aware of God?” or, “Can you list some characteristics or accomplishments of God?” Mindfulness is deeper, and far more effective in fertilizing future faith. If you’re struggling with a depressing, repetitive cycle of sin in your life, perhaps you need to learn mindfulness.

God’s been at work longer than you have!

Go ahead and take a look in your rear-view mirror. You know what you’ll find? That God has been directing the play long before you stepped on stage to fulfill your role. Your story predates your birthday, and it postdates your death!

What if?

What if you were to commit three solid weeks of your life to God? Three weeks of seeking His Word in quality and quantity? Three weeks of painfully looking inward and dealing with the issues God’s Word exposed? Three weeks of total God-focus? What would happen? What if?

"The joy of the Lord is my strength "

If this statement be true, I know a lot of weak Christians! Joy is not a feeling to be sought, or even an attitude to be put on; it is a by-product of one’s relationship with a communicative God! Its reality is greater than the negative circumstances you face or the people who stand against you.

The importance of small groups

Call them whatever you want: life groups, adult Bible fellowships, small groups, or Sunday School. The fact is that small groups provide the necessary structure by which the Word of God can be explained and understood. More people teaching, more people learning, and more results happening… Good stuff!
